Beginners Course

Red Dragon Archers  welcomes anybody who wants to try archery with a view to taking up the sport & joining our club. On the beginners course our instructors will teach you the correct shooting technique & ensure you know how to shoot safely within a club environment.

Courses are a minimum of 6 hours tuition usually spread over 6 sessions and are generally held on a Sunday evening. You must complete your form and have your place confirmed by the club prior to the course starting. Numbers are strictly limited and we will not accommodate people arriving on the day. A course normally consists of weekly 1-2 hour sessions this format is up to the lead coaches discretion. If it is necessary to cancel a lesson due to unforeseen circumstances an alternative session will be provided. If you know in advance that you will miss a particular week (e.g. if you are on holiday), then it can be made up later at the coaches discretion. If you are unable to attend a particular lesson please let us know beforehand. We cannot accept beginners into the Club unless they have received a minimum of 6 hours coaching.

We provide all the equipment for the course. Please, do not buy any equipment yourselves until you have completed the course. You will be advised about the type of equipment that would be suitable for you during the course.  If you join the club, we may be able to lend  bows for a short time provided they are not needed for another beginner attending one of our courses.

You should wear comfortable but close-fitting clothing. If it’s chilly it’s better to wear several thin layers rather than one bulky one. It can be quite cold on the range during the winter months. It’s important that you don’t wear jumpers or jackets with baggy sleeves or big buttons as bow strings tend to catch on them & spoil your shot!  Open toed sandals are NOT permitted.

The fee for each course is – £40

All coaching will be by fully qualified coaches, Leaders or trainee coaches and experienced club archers under the supervision of a Level 2 coach or above.

We allow juniors of age 7 years and above to apply to join the beginner’s course. However, acceptance of each junior on the course is subject to the approval of the Head Coach.

Juniors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, at all times when shooting.
